The STS-98 crew, pre-launch, at the Beach House. L to R: Jones, Curbeam, Polansky, Ivins, and Cockrell

The most beautiful space shuttle launch ever. Feb. 7, 2001 (NASA)
Congratulations to my colleagues and friends of shuttle mission STS-98, flown eight years ago this week. We delivered the Destiny laboratory to the International Space Station. And we left Earth in style…see photo above. Beamer, Roman, Marsha, Taco — it was a privilege flying with you.
Enjoy the mission photo galleries at my web site: www.AstronautTomJones.com. And read an “inside the spacesuit account” about how this mission unfolded in my book, Sky Walking: An Astronaut’s Memoir (Smithsonian Collins, 2006).
